It's not exactly the same brand of horror as Outlast 1 (more psychological+ambient horror), and the story is longer, more subtle overall and less in-your-face. You'll enjoy it better if you DON'T compare it to Outlast 1 at all, because comparing 1 to 2 is essentially comparing apples to oranges. Outlast 2 is a game you should consider as being a standalone game, and not a direct sequel to Outlast 1. However, if you go into it expecting to be just like Outlast 1 but with updated graphics (which is why it got the reception it did) then you're going to have a bad time and be dissapointed. Ignore the reception, the game is legitimately a good game. So if you like the christian heretic setting and a bit more challenging gameplay then give it a go it is alot of fun.Ībsolutely. I will admit the messiah plat achievement is hard, but it is doable and I did it multiple times already. They also have alot of smaller details that if you really look into it make sense but that would be spoilers so I won't say it here. Gameplay is more challenging as you have stamina to keep in mind, you also can get wounded and have to heal.

There are also hallucinations that bring you back to a christian school setting at night which where some creepy shenanigans is going on. The characters you encounter are pretty scary. First of the setting really fits the theme of the game, christian heretic setting in an very isolated town somewhere in arazona. But with that being sad it is alot of fun and defintly really scary. But I gotta be honest if you are deeply invested in the lore then outlast 2 most likely will be a bit frustrating as the lore about murkoff is going on in the background, you don't really experience it like in the original outlast.
